We're a growing, movement-informed swim school — real client reviews are on their way. In the meantime, here's what every swimmer can count on at Beyond the Waves: instruction built on how the body actually learns to move.
No. We meet every swimmer exactly where they are, from a first splash to advanced technique work — there's no prerequisite to start.
Your swim journey doesn't have an expiration date. We teach adult beginners, returning swimmers, and anyone refining their stroke, at any age.
Yes. Our adaptive aquatics program offers one-on-one lessons with adapted teaching methods and a patience-first approach, designed around each swimmer's abilities, communication, and sensory needs.
It means our teaching philosophy is shaped by an understanding of human movement — body mechanics, coordination, motor learning, and individual differences — brought into swim education by our founders' training in physical therapy. We look at how a swimmer moves through a skill, not just whether they complete it.
No. Beyond the Waves Aquatics provides swim education and aquatic programming, not physical therapy or medical treatment. Our movement-informed approach is shaped by leadership with education and training in physical therapy and human movement. We apply that perspective to how we think about teaching, progression, movement, and individualization.
It's our teaching philosophy, built on four pillars: Safety, Movement, Personalization, and Confidence. Every instructor is trained to teach through this same standard, so the experience stays consistent no matter who's teaching your lesson.
Not sure what level or format to start at? Contact us and tell us a bit about your goals — we'll help you find the right starting point.
We serve NYC and Long Island, teaching at partner pools and, where available, at your building or a private pool (a $20–30 travel fee applies for off-site lessons).
A swimsuit, towel, and goggles. We'll send full arrival instructions — plus your required waiver and medical form — in your welcome email right after booking.
Yes — that's exactly what our semi-private and group formats are for. Progress is better together, and everyone still gets individualized instruction and feedback.
Your instructor greets you by name, checks in on any concerns or past water experience, and ends the lesson with a quick recap of what was covered and what's next.
Through our leveling system — swim skills, safety skills, breathing skills, and movement focus at every level — with progress updates every 4–6 lessons so you always know what your swimmer is working on.
Every instructor is trained through The Beyond Standard. Our founders, Jannah Elgamssy and Demi Baboolal, are both Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) candidates, bringing that movement background into how our whole team teaches.
Reschedule for free with 24+ hours notice; cancellations under 24 hours forfeit the session. Weather or instructor-initiated cancellations always get a free make-up.
